Every year I get excited about what happens to New York during Armory Week. I guess it could be the same for those who live in Miami, when their whole world turns into one giant art fair. With the exception of course that the weather in Miami is deliciously warm and everyone is happy to run around from fair to fair, Armory Week in New York is an announcement of Spring and new life in the city.
At least that’s how I see it.
After the perpetual chill that leaves me wanting to hibernate at home, the sudden explosion of art exhibitions and events wakes me up and gives me the energy to go out and absorb everything. Unlike most years, I made it a mission this time to go and see as much as I possibly could.
First place I headed off to was the Armory Show preview. On the way, I caught site of the entrance to the (Un)Scene Art Show. I had never been there before!

The colors and the voluptuous, mitochondria-like shape drew me in, mesmerized and very curious!
What an incredible space. I was one of the first people there, so it was great to walk around before the art fair crowds poured in. Some of the artists or art handlers were still arranging the art. Below are some of the artworks that caught my eye:

Although most art fair experiences are pretty much the same, like a reunion for the players in the art world, you can’t beat the convenience of being able to get a sample of the global art market offerings in one location. This year, I enjoyed it more than last year- I’m not sure why. There just seemed to be more energy and hope… more creativity I think.
